Il a de grandes esp\u00e9rances et veut se forger un destin. Il quitte l&rsquo;imprimerie familiale de sa province natale pour tenter sa chance \u00e0 Paris, au bras de sa protectrice. Bient\u00f4t livr\u00e9 \u00e0 lui-m\u00eame dans la ville fabuleuse, le jeune homme va d\u00e9couvrir les coulisses d&rsquo;un monde vou\u00e9 \u00e0 la loi du profit et des faux-semblants. Une com\u00e9die humaine o\u00f9 tout s&rsquo;ach\u00e8te et se vend, la litt\u00e9rature comme la presse, la politique comme les sentiments, les r\u00e9putations comme les \u00e2mes.
